While on assignment for Hudson County View, a U.S. Department of Transportation official said last week in Bayonne, New Jersey that both New Jersey and New York will have to pony up more money to fund a new passenger rail tunnel under the Hudson River because it is “essentially a local transit asset.”
U.S. Senator (D-NJ) Cory Booker was in Bayonne recently to announce with Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis and U.S. Senator (D-NJ) Bob Menendez the sale of land at the former Military Ocean Terminal for the development of new industrial warehouses. In the following interview with the senator for Hudson County View, I ask for the senator’s reaction to the money allocated in the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill for the Gateway Tunnel.
The new $1.3T omnibus spending bill breathes new life into the funding of new passenger rail tunnels under the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey. Despite protestations from President Donald Trump that he didn’t want to fund the project, the new spending allocates approximately $500 million for preliminary construction for the new tunnels.
The passenger rail tunnels were built in 1911!!
Bob Dylan talked Freight Train Blues; we’re talking Passenger Train Blues.
